Stage 1.
For the joint project between humanities and math we learned about space (as in dimensions) and time. We were then given a list of prompts to create an art piece relating to what we had learned. The piece I made is seen below and used the prompt of multidimensional.
Artist Statement:
My art piece is a geometric shape comprised of octagons, triangles and eight pointed stars. It is colored with cool colors in the center that become warmer as you get closer to the outside of the shape.
When I was creating my art piece was trying to express dimensionality while creating a visually appealing piece. I decided to express the concept that there are infinite dimensions by employing the color spectrum to express this infinity. The frequency of the light is measured in wavelength and and goes on infinitely in a similar way to temperature. To explain the previous analogy things can become infinitely hot as their molecules can move faster and faster, but things can only get so cold as eventually their molecules will slow to a stop. I felt that light would be a useful expression for dimensions because like light we can only see a limited amount of what exists; by this we call the light on the higher end of the spectrum that we can’t see ultraviolet, and we call the dimensions that we can’t see fourth, fifth, etc. For the Geometrical part of this project I drew a geometric shape using the constructions we learned in math. When I created the shape I began with a straight line that I bisected to create a perpendicular line and continued bisecting angles until I had eight axis total. I then began to draw straight lines between every other axis to form an octagon. After had an octagon I drew straight lines going vertically and diagonally on each vertices (point) on the octagon. I then constructed a circle using my compass measured from the center of the shape to to the intersecting points from the lines drawn from the vertices of the octagon. I then drew lines from the intersecting point of the midpoint of each side of the octagon and where they intersect with the circle, connecting each line with third intersecting point within the circle until each point had two lines connecting with it. I then erased all the lines outside of the largest octagon for neatness; then I colored each different shape with a different color and colored the background black. Each color represents a different dimension.

The things we studied to learn about time and space where flatland and slaughterhouse five. To summarize their plots, flatland is the story of a two dimensional world and how the main character begins to learn about other dimensions both up and down. Slaughter house five is the crumbling memories and delusions of the main character as his brain slowly falls apart and he begins to theorize about time travel (fate).
Refection:
1.) My learning experience from reading flatland and slaughterhouse five have been limited. I feel for the most part unmoved by both stories due to the fact that I had already learned about the concepts we have been learning about before.
2.) The design process for my project began with me experimenting with geometric shapes and seeing how they looked together. After about a day of testing and looking at geometric art I decided on an eight pointed star with an octagonal frame. When I finished my first idea I decided to add a circle to the interior star and that was the end to the line work of the project. After the lines were finished I printed copies of the shape to test different color combinations. I settled on a violet center then followed by blue, then light blue, then green, then yellow, then red and a black background.
3.) I had trouble really connecting this project to flatland or slaughterhouse five, but thinking back with hindsight I can look at my art piece as some kind of relic placed by a higher being to be discovered by a being from a lower dimension like in the second (the movie that we watched second) flatland movie. I feel that this project has been a nice warm up for things to come and it has made me think about how you can find small things in a piece and express them as greater things.

Stage 2 + 3. Shattered, a Narrative art exhibition
Description
The time and space exhibition was based off of meow wolf as an interactive art exhibit/experience. There were three rooms, the office which had a computer and papers to read, the car crash which gave clues to what happened and the coma room which held more information about what had happened. The visitors to the exhibition were wowed by the detail put into each room and seemed to enjoy the exhibition.
The committee I worked for was the tech group. The largest contributions I did were the whisper recordings, the fractal projection and the music. Over all every one in tech (that did any work) worked on everything. I enjoyed working with this group to help make the exhibition great.
Reflection
Before we began work on designing the project we took a trip to Meow Wolf. I feel this helped us by showing us some techniques in expressing a story. More importantly to me, there were technicians everywhere in Meow Wolf so I was able to watch them working on the technical side of Meow Wolf. Without the trip to Meow Wolf our exhibition would be very different.
When we started working on our exhibition we quickly learned that we had to work together. A common theme in the beginning of the work was one group waiting for another to finish something so they could start work. Something I was able to experience was the builders coming to me for assistance in designing the pillar for the projector. Teamwork was a necessity in this exhibition.
This project is the largest project I have ever done. I feel that I worked to the best of my ability. If I were to do this again I would try to communicate better with the other groups. I am very proud of this project.
Overall I feel I learned more real life skills than math or humanities. This project was great in showing us that in order to complete something of this magnitude there will be stress, setbacks and doubts. I learned a bit about building when I helped with the pillar and watched the walls being built, but I don’t feel any math or humanities skills were learned during the building of the project. Despite not achieving the goal this project may have set out to do I feel it was a success.
